Biological indicators of stress resilience from outdoor teaching

In the project "Outdoor Lessons - A Year in the Forest", our working group, in cooperation with the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim, the Department of Sports Medicine, Prevention & Rehabilitation of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University of Stavanger, has the influence of regular, natural and curriculum-compliant school lessons Researching biological indicators of stress resilience. In the 2014/2015 school year, regular outdoor lessons and regular lessons for students at the English Institute in Heidelberg were examined. A particular research focus was on the connections between activity behavior and cortisol reactivity as well as on the motivational behavior during outdoor lessons compared to normal lessons. Outdoor Education - ELPIN project

Learning outside of the classroom is becoming more and more important in an international context, especially in Scandinavia and the Anglo-American region. Under the direction of Dr. Ulrich Dettweiler has been developing the ELPIN project at TUM since 2012. The didactic core of "Expeditionary Learning" is made up of scientific research expeditions in which schoolchildren in various small groups record data in the field and then evaluate it in the laboratory. Here the working group cooperates with the Berchtesgadener Land student research center of the TUM School of Education and the Schyren-Gymnasium Pfaffenhofen / Ilm. Contact: Christoph Becker

Running around makes you smart

Since 2006, the Kurt Henn Foundation has offered all first graders from Baden-Baden and Sinzheim an extensive fitness test every year in order to identify possible weaknesses and deficits at an early stage and to compensate for them with special sports lessons.
