It is probably one of the most frequently asked questions: How much does a photovoltaic system really bring me? The amount of solar electricity (kWh) produced in PV systems depends primarily on the regional location, the orientation (direction of the compass) and the angle of inclination. Because the more sun the system gets, the higher its yield.

Rule of thumb - income from photovoltaics

For a PV system, costs of around 2,000 to 3,000 euros / kWp (kilowatt peak = maximum output of the system) can be expected. The modules differ according to performance classes (currently from 275 Wp): the more output, the more expensive. Accordingly, if there is a lot of space available (e.g. for a system in the garden), the less powerful and cheaper modules are used.

When it comes to the question of whether such a system is profitable for you at all, you have to calculate precisely with regard to your own consumption and the feed-in tariff. The important thing is the annual yield, which depends on the location (logically more electricity can be produced where the sun shines more often), the total area, the orientation (ideally towards the south), and finally the roof pitch (ideal is a slope of 30 up to 33 degrees).

And how much electricity is actually being produced? There is a simple rule of thumb for this: Per kWp of installed solar power, electricity generation between 800 and 1,200 kWh of solar power per year can be expected. With a 10 kWp PV system (approx. 65 m² space requirement), the annual solar power harvest fluctuates between 8,000 and 12,000 kWh. For comparison: the average annual electricity consumption of a four-person household is approx. 4,000 kWh. “We recommend a minimum size of the system of 35 to 40 square meters. Smaller dimensions do not bring the average household such noticeable income, ”emphasize the experts from the domestic energy provider EVN, who support those interested in developing the right solution from production to storage of private electricity.
